Metalica
Metallica é uma banda norte-americana de metal formada na cidade de Los Angeles, Califórnia. Os seus lançamentos incluem temposrápidos, instrumentais, e musicalidade agressiva, a qual os colocou no lugar de uma das bandas fundadoras dos "Big Four" do thrash metal, conjuntamente com Slayer, Megadeth e Anthrax. A banda foi formada em 1981, após James Hetfield responder a um anúncio que o bateristaLars Ulrich colocou no jornal local. Em 2003, a formação passou a consistir no guitarrista principal Kirk Hammett (que se juntou à banda em 1983) , e no baixista Robert Trujillo (membro desde 2003), bem como Hetfield e Ulrich. Antes de chegar à sua formação actual, a banda teve vários membros: guitarrista principal Dave Mustaine (que mais tarde fundou o Megadeth), e baixistas Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton e Jason Newsted.
A banda ganhou uma crescente base de fãs na comunidade de música underground, e alguns críticos dizem que o lançamento de 1986Master of Puppets é um dos álbuns de thrash metal mais influentes e "pesados". A banda alcançou um substancial sucesso comercial com o seu álbum auto-intitulado de 1991, que estreou em primeiro lugar na Billboard 200. Alguns críticos e fãs acreditavam que o estilo musical da banda mudou de sentido apelando para o público mainstream. Com o lançamento de Load em 1996, Metallica distanciou-se de seus lançamentos anteriores, sendo descrito como "uma abordagem quase rock alternativo", e a banda enfrentou acusações de "tornar-se comercial".
Em 2000 o Metallica esteve entre os vários artistas que apresentaram uma ação judicial contra o Napster por compartilhar materiais protegidos por direitos de autor livremente sem o consentimento dos membros da banda.[1] A resolução foi tomada, e Napster se tornou um serviço de uso pago. Apesar de atingir o primeiro lugar na Billboard 200, o lançamento de St. Anger em 2003 desapontou alguns críticos e fãs com a exclusão de solos de guitarra, bem como o "aço-auscultação" da caixa. Um filme intitulado Some Kind of Monster foi lançado em 2004, documentando o processo de gravação de St. Anger.
